The Goshen Independent, America’s oldest weekly paper, serving Goshen, New York, since 1806 is a proud member and partner of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. Executive Director Barbara Martinez approached Editor Tom Leek about working together to bring weekly awareness of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce’s Farmers Market. The idea was simple, every Friday they would highlight a Featured Vendor of the Week and create recipes featuring items from the vendors at the market. Editor Tom Leek took it one step further and suggested a partnership, that would make it possible for the Goshen Chamber and the Goshen Indy to support, promote and bring value to each other. Executive Director Barbara Martinez calls it “a match made in heaven” saying, “Tom has been a blessing and a great mentor.”
The concept has evolved to not only featuring vendors but also helping tell the story of the Goshen Chamber’s guest vendors consisting of local crafters, artists from the Goshen Art League and Goshen Chamber members. The Goshen Chamber is also proud to promote their collaboration with a new member, Myrtle Pettit, Clinical Nutritionist and owner of Kitch’n Gardens, by creating recipes for the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. The Goshen Chamber has since added LIVE music provided every Friday from 11am-1pm by singer/performer Glassy Honk of The Family Friendly Criminals and has also introduced new member Clever Kids Club LLC, providing “Creative, Educational and Fun” activities for children. “We keep adding and enhancing the Farmers Market experience,” said Barbara, “and we are so honored to have formed these new partnerships, collaborations, and friendships, we are truly a community.”
