George Lyons Goshen Chamber

George Lyons

Forty-eight years ago, my family moved to Goshen.  We set our roots down and hoped that we had chosen a safe and nurturing environment to raise our family. Goshen has proven to be just that – a caring, culturally rich, and historically significant town and village.  I graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and went on to Columbia University where I earned a Master’s Degree in Education. Continuing my studies at Columbia, I earned a second Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling.I followed that by earning a CAS (Certificate of Advanced Study) in Administration from SUNY, New Paltz.

After a rewarding 35 year career in education, I am fully retired which allows me even more time to serve our community.  My interest in Health, coupled with a desire to serve, led me to join the fledgling Goshen Volunteer Ambulance Corps (GOVAC) in 1975. Since that time, I’ve been an active member and riding EMT for 48 years, and I currently serve as the President of GOVAC.  In 1980 I was elected to the Village Board and served as a Trustee for 10 years, until being elected Village Mayor for 4 terms (8 years). During my term as Mayor, we controlled taxes by procuring State and Federal grants to pay for Police vehicles, parkland improvements and road improvements.  The Connector Road and the Northgate Senior Housing are two of my proudest achievements.

In 2006 I was elected to the Goshen Town Council, and serve as your Councilman to this day. I have collaborated with my Council colleagues to find efficient ways to save taxes.  Currently, my town Board responsibilities include: Liaison to the Senior Center, Town Insurance Commissioner and Deputy Supervisor.  I have been an active member of the Goshen Chamber Board of Directors for the past eight years.I enjoy supporting the Business community by attending Grand Openings, Monthly Breakfasts, and Board of Directors meetings, as well as working to set up the Farmers Market.

Melanie Tocco

As a Goshen village resident for nearly a decade Melanie has built her home and life here along side her 4 & 5 year old kids. As a Mindset coach in a very virtual world Melanie knew if she ever where to open her own office it would have to be in the heart of Goshen and that’s exactly what she did.

Being involved in the village and community she lives so much is something she is passionate about. Getting to create and build relationships with members and business of our community is what a village is all about
